From Drought to Drench

Recently, California has suffered a terrible drought leaving the state’s farming industry in a mess. Some homes have lacked clean drinking water. Across the country, reservoirs, lakes and rivers have dried out. The governor, Jerry Brown, has declared the drought a statewide crisis. However, winter storms have brought relief. Around the end of January, 42% of the state no longer was suffering from the drought. But the storms weren’t all good news though, they led to flooding and landslides. The disasters in total, killed a total of 4 million people. They caused severe damage that would need millions of dollars to fix. “It was too much water too fast”, says Michelle Mead, a meteorologist at the National Weather Center. Despite the weather, Californian governor Jerry Brown doesn’t think the crisis is over yet.  Down here is a graph of the drought conditions.
